A lot of my friends have written about how they met. I love hearing stories like that! I will try to give you a detailed yet short story of how John and I met. I think it's cute :)
It was a little before May of '04 and I had already attended USCA (University of South Carolina of Aiken) for a year. John had taken a year off after high school and worked for Totally Awesome Computers (what is now PC Laptops). I remember how depressed I was and I was doing lousy in school. I wanted to get out of that small town called Aiken (I grew up there) and start a new life somewhere different. John was getting ready to come to the U of U. I had convinced my parents to let me attend the U as well. John grew up in Farr West/Ogden and Salt Lake was only about a 45 min drive. Me, I drove from South Carolina - to Louisiana (I picked up Linda on the way)- to New Mexico- to Salt Lake... It was a long drive!! John drove up with his mom and his friend Tyler.
We made it! We were in Sage Point in building 813. Linda helped me move into my room and I finally met my new roomate Janell. John, Tyler, and their friend Brian. We hadn't seen the guys but they left a message on our dry erase board on our outside door. Later that night I got up the courage to go and meet the guys (it was summer semester so the dorms were not filled at all). I had the excuse of wanting to borrow a deck of cards to play with my roomie. I walked up to a dark room (door was open) and came in knockin on the wall saying a quiet hello. I was greeted by all the boys getting up and turning on the light(they were watching an episode of Futurama). I asked for a deck and Baca (John- that is what he is called) goes to his drawers and hands me a deck. I looked down to realize it was a playboy deck...lol. They followed me back to sit in front of our door and play in the hallway. We played for a while and they mainly told stories of their recent trip to Mexico and all their craziness. Me, loving the bad boy got a huge crush on Baca with his first story. From that day on, we never seperated and hung out everyday. First as a group, then we both quietly realized we liked each other. It was probably the best summer I have ever had. We eventually met other friends such as Susel and Josh and April.
After a while in the dorms, I stuck with Susel and April for roomate situations. We moved to the Wright Apartments, to the avenues house, to Broadmore Apartments... All of our moves being a last minute, crazy, and heinous move. The Wright Apartments were very fun. Baca and I practically lived with each other because him, Josh, Tyler, and Robert(now aprils hubby!) lived together right next door. We had our ups and downs but never really broke up. I think we enjoyed being comfortable with one another. This was Baca's first relationship and I had dated a bit but didn't really start anything back in SC. By the time I had moved to Broadmore I had lived with just April (Susel just got married and moved out). I started having the urge to date more. My mom's statement of when I first came out to utah was "don't date the first guy you meet" came to mind. I broke it off with John and put him and me through a lot of grief. I tried to date as many guys as I could. I wasn't being smart and was trying to be something I wasn't. Thankfully Baca stuck with me the whole time. I think he realized I was going a little nuts on me being not sure if I wanted to persue us more. We had already been dating over a year and not being able to really live together/other stuff (not until marriage) was hard. I had a trip planned to go to New Mexico but Ken couldn't make it so I had to find someone to come with me. I ended up asking Baca to tag a long but making sure he knew it was only a friend thing. For the whole 10 hours our conversation was Baca repeatedly trying to convince me that we should get married. We were still broken up!!! He didn't let off and by the time we got to my parents I was convinced. I mentioned it to my parents and at first my mom didn't believe me. When we were eating dinner and I mentioned looking at wedding rings, it hit her that we were serious. We couldn't find a ring there in NM (way too expensive!) so we found one online for cheap! We told our family by sending out an email with pictures of us and you keep scrolling down and find a picture of the ring. Wes called at about 7 am the next morning wondering what the crap was going on. Two months later we were hitched and it was the best day of my life! I hated planning a wedding but it was worth it to see all our family and friends together. Sorry if this is way too long!!
