Life Updates

I better blog about our life before I forget.  I have had a nine month vacation from blogging (whoops!).  Baca's first company shut down since they didn't have any other projects.  Superbot is now closed.  During the end Baca and I were in a bit of a panic.  Were we going to move back to UT and do grad school?  Would we be able to find another job?  We covered our butts and had our plan...and our backup plan...and plan C...You get it.  He had some phone interviews (some in San Fran, San Diego, all of which were backups), he had an interview at a job in El Segundo where his buddy worked (from Superbot) and knew he nailed the interview.  1 week passed...no call.  2 weeks go by.  We were sweating bullets by this point!  Trying not to bug his buddy and trying not to break down every night.  Kind of a crappy process to go through!  I think it was about 3 weeks or more we finally got a confirmation that he got the job!  I remember checking the email for paperwork and seeing his offer in his mailbox.  What a glorious moment it was!  We had received an offer for what we were going to ask for!  Really, an amazing moment.

Baca has been working at Big Red Button Ent.  for about 6 months.  He is not just a UI programmer anymore, he is a general programmer with some UI involved.  I know he likes it much better.  The company he came from threw money around while BRB is super frugal.  Baca and I talked and hopefully he can segway into networking, that will allow him to go into other genres (other than gaming).  We are not sure if this is the kind of lifestyle we want (or can handle) forever.  Changing jobs every  2-4 years?  Yikes.  We are super grateful that he has broke into the industry though.  It is an experience to remember!

My life is pretty chill.  My good buddy Rachel and I have been hanging out for a while and now she is leaving!  Her hubby and her have been praying for a better job and they got it!  They are moving to UT in two weeks.  Thinking about it is hard.  I felt like I finally was stable with my social life, now I feel like I have to start all over.

Recently, Baca crunched our car!  He was pulling out of a parking space and hit the big pole he parked next too.  I know.  It was pretty silly how he could do it from a parked position...but he was tired.  You know the drill.  Today we are sending it to the shop hoping it will look brand new when it is done!  Cross your fingers!

Living the LA Life!!-

Rachel, Emily and I got a chance to see Conan live!  It was so fun!  We lucked out and got front row seats!  I even got to play the trumpet from one of the guys in the band!  I forget how slobbery the mouth piece can get...yuck!  But I played it well! haha!  We got to see 3 guest stars!  The gay guy from Modern Family, the Gov'ner from Walking Dead and James Franco.  So cool to be there live!  Sadly, NO pictures were allowed in CONAN.  Here we are waiting in the parking lot...:) (Nov 18th)
Emily and I also saw the Soup taping too.  We got to shake Joel McHales hand and take pictures!  Love that guy and the taping was super fun!  I am trying to take advantage of living in LA! (9/25/13)

Sewing...Yep, I did it!

Pillow covers!  I loved how these turned out.  (Nov 2013)

Bad picture..but PROOF.  Proof I did all the sewing!

I had this fabric for at least a month chomping at the bit to get curtains going.  I was waiting for a friend to help since I have had no experience with sewing.  I got a little bored and tried pillow covers first.  After that I was determined to start and finish my curtains!  Thankfully my other friend Rachel was willing to help (and let me use her machine)

Here she is helping iron ;)

We did FOUR panels!  This may not sound like a lot...but it was two days of constant work!  I put my curtain rods up high b/c I had to have floor to ceiling curtains!   Thank you dad for helping me buy/paint/install my rods!  I am really happy how they turned out.
The patterns don't go very well together but I am going to add a grey pillow to tie it in.  I really wanted yellow as a strong color to brighten the place up.  I think it did just that!

June Bloom Pictures

Junes first movie!  No, we didn't see Turbo, it was Despicable Me 2.  She did good as far as I remember.  I mainly worried about her peeing her pants since potty training had just began!

She loves building blocks.  Especially with her daddy!

This didn't last long but Gma got her a cute apron.   And, MasterChef Jr. had just come out.  Those kids put me to SHAME!

We hit up the park before going to the doctor!

Rheumetologist apt.  Yes, I spelled it wrong.  June hadn't been sick for two months prior to the apt so I was happy to say the least.  The doctors looked her up and down and she was fine.  I am crossing my fingers she just grew out of the seizures.  Oh boy, my life has been a whole lot less stressful with out this kid being sick every month!!

Jane and June.  This is Junes BFF.  Her mom is my good buddy too.  So sad to know that they are moving out of state in two weeks :(!  They have seriously been amazing to get to know and spend time with.

Home Projects

Since being a stay at home mom, this new life of mine has its challenges.  Like keeping busy :).  Not just with the kid but, for ME.  I got into a funk and quickly thought of many 'crafty' ideas to do. I wanted to paint the walls but knew that adventure would take lots of time and money.  SO.  I thought if I had to keep white walls, why not change the cabinets?  I got paint from a friend (already in a color I loved!) and borrowed brushes and utensils.  Here is a before picture ( there is a coat on the outter upper cabinet to see if I liked it).
Regular, ugly apartment kitchen...blegh!  I HATED these cabinets!

Note: This project was done by me.  Only me.  I hit this out in a day.  There are at least three coats of paint, and some clear ontop.  It got sloppy by the third coat.  My main goal was to cover what was noticeable!

Here is the pain on the cabinets...no knobs yet.

This project cost me around 55$.  How you ask?  I had a lot of good friends who lent me the paint and such.  I just bought the knobs.  BOOYA!

I even painted the ugly wood cover on the lights.  It helped brighten the kitchen majorly!
This kitchen was only the beginning....It turned out great and helps our apartment feel more 'home-ish'

Vacation

I am literally two days off the cruise ship and still feel like the ground is moving!  I will tell you I was not ready to come back to reality.  John and I went on a 4 day cruise on Carnival.  It was awesome!  The ship at sea wasn't the best for my motion sickness, but being able to sleep in, eat all day everyday, and laze around without any guilt was a great way to spend those four days.  And no child!  My mom came over and watched her and I am thankful.  We bought this a couple months ago when we had the extra money and we are so glad we did.  I know Carnival is the cheaper of ships but the food and lodging was much better than I thought it would be.  Here is a breakdown of our trip:

Day 1:
Waiting in line, checking in, getting settled in our room, and exploring the ship.  We walked the ship and got to eat some lunch.  It was buffet style and that is how I like it!  The best news on the ship was ice cream and pizza were open 24/7.  Yes, that is sad.  I seriously pounded out 4-5 ice cream cones my first day.  And it felt gooooood!  They had a raffle in the GYM for spa certificate give away, and I WON!  I won a hundred off spa service.  I went right after and booked John and I a couples message :)

Day 2:  Funny thing is, I chose a room at the front to not share as many walls with neighbors.  After the first night, we got woken up by a "CLANK CLANK CLANK" of chains.  We were right next to the anchor...Hahaha!  For at least 45 min, the giant anchor clanked its way to the bottom.  Thankfully, most of the time it was a quiet room.  Since we were already up around 7 am, we got up early to eat breakfast and catch a boat to Catalina!  John and I hunted down a beach to lay out on.  We walked and found a small beach full of...rocks.  A rocky beach.  So, we put a towel down and laid out.  For a total of 5 minutes.  Laying on rocks was not comfy!  Sadly, this was the only type of beach on that side of the island.  Good to know.  We walked for a while before our excursion of snorkeling!  Yes, it was cold.  Yes, I was def rethinking that excursion.  No, I could not change it.  John was too excited for me to skip on him!  So, we walked for a bit to Lovers Cove.  We got our wet suits on, sadly mine was a bit bigger, not the snug fitting one you should be wearing in that kind of weather.  I didn't do too hot when it came to snorkeling.  I stuck pretty close to the shore while the rest of the group paddled their way around the cove.  John felt sorry for me and stuck close lol.  So, he enjoyed it while I froze with water gushing in my open space of my wet suit.  We headed back to the ship and enjoyed the rest of the night eating and walking around.

Day 3:    The dock today was in Ensenada Mexico.  We didn't have to ride on the little boats to get from ship to dock so that was good.  Too bad People rarely tell you that Ensenada wasn't that nice.  It was nice to walk around except for the many, many children trying to sell you chicklets and sling shots.  I did bargain for a deal on a couple of bracelets.  I felt like I got my fill of Mexico so we walked back to the ship.  The rest of the day was watching shows and hanging out.  That night the the boat was rocking while leaving the port.  I had to pop some meds and crashed hard.

Guess you can't really see the flag in the back!

Day 4:  This was the day at sea.  The medicine made me tired so I could barely get up.  We got up to get breakfast but I guess John noticed I wasn't doing too hot when the ship was trudging through the sea.  We headed back to the room and I got some more meds.  I slept off and on the rest of the day until dinner time.    We did use room service and order in for lunch/ post lunch haha.  We made sure to make it to dinner (they had a bit nicer food and we dined early).  After napping all day I was ready to see some comedy shows.  We went to bed around midnight that night and tried to pack as best we could before we had to leave the next morn.

There were many more details like how our sectioned house keeper knew our names and was super sweet to us.  She probably saw us the most b/c we would forget stuff in our room so we were in and out a lot.  We met three couples and saw them off and on, most of the time they just got smashed so it was funny to see them later in the day because they were happier/relaxed :).  We seriously ate so much.  I mean, the best part of vacation is to eat.  John got so excited over a free deck of cards you get at the help desk, we hit them up four times.  I tried to get another pack the last day but they were out.  I think that was some what our fault :) We gambled two dollars, and lost it quickly.  We had our fill of that pretty quick!  I did not get to layout like I wanted as the days got worse day by day.  All in all, I really enjoyed the cruise.  I had trouble when we were going but maybe I can do a cruise where the ship is docked most of the time!

And this is what I came home too.  We weren't the only ones on vacation!  Our little bug was spoiled to death by Gma.

Sleep

June has been sick for the past couple of days with fever/flu.  I got woke up at 3 am this morning because she was on fire!  I gave her meds, stuck her back in bed and waited for her to wake up again.  She started crying at 7 am because she didn't have any blankets on her and she was cold.  So, I brought her to our bed thinking she would wake up and make us get up.  Not this morning!  She and daddy slept until 10 am!  It was so cute!  June randomly yelled out for "Ti Ti" (her cousin) while still sleeping.  That made my day.
